Guwahati is set to become the epicentre of pharmaceutical advancement as the North East Pharmaceutical Society (NEPS) declares the North East Pharmaceutical Convention (NEPC) 2026.
Scheduled to take place from February 26th to 28th at the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre in Guwahati, this premier event aims to reshape the healthcare landscape of northeast India.
By bringing together industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers, the convention seeks to transition the region from a mere consumer of healthcare products to a powerhouse of pharmaceutical innovation and manufacturing.
The theme for this year, ‘Empowering North East India for Pharmaceutical Innovations and Best Practices for Sustainable and Patient-Centric Healthcare’, underscores a commitment to both modern technology and ethical responsibility. Organizers emphasize that the event is designed to bridge the gap between national pharmaceutical giants and the local ecosystem. A key focus remains on ensuring that cutting-edge healthcare solutions, such as personalized medicine and improved logistics, reach even the most remote areas of the north eastern hills.
According to Zahidul Mozumder, general secretary of the association, this convention serves as a catalyst for investment, leveraging the region's growing healthcare sector to create a more resilient infrastructure and drive regional economic growth.
"One of the most unique aspects of the convention is its focus on the region's rich biodiversity. Often referred to as a 'natural pharmacy', the north east possesses a vast heritage of medicinal plants and traditional practices that remain largely untapped. NEPC 2026 will explore how this flora can be integrated into modern pharmaceutical research, attracting academic and industrial interest to explore sustainable manufacturing practices that protect the region's pristine environment," he informed Pharmabiz.
Running concurrently with the convention is the North East India Pharma and Health Expo, organized in partnership with Exhibitions and Trade Services India Pvt Ltd (ETSIPL). This specialized exhibition will showcase the latest breakthroughs in drug manufacturing, laboratory equipment, and advanced medical devices. With over 200 exhibitors participating, the expo brings industrial expertise from hubs like Navi Mumbai directly to Guwahati, providing local hospitals and distributors access to global technology.
Beyond industry and trade, the convention is a vital platform for aspiring professionals and students. The event will feature a comprehensive lineup of plenary talks, scientific sessions, pharma quiz, and a dedicated job fair. By facilitating oral and poster presentations of pharmaceutical research, the NEPC provides a stage for students (from D. Pharm to Pharm D) to interact with eminent personalities from regulatory bodies and academia, fostering the next generation of pharmacy experts.
Established in 2017, the North East Pharmaceutical Society continues its mission to harmonize the efforts of pharmacy professionals across all sectors. The secretary of the society said it is dedicated to brushing out unscientific thoughts through guided pharmaceutical care.
