The Retail Distribution Chemists Alliance (RDCA), the apex body for pharmaceutical traders in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, is commemorating a landmark 30-year journey of service to the industry.

Operating under the evocative slogan ‘Voice of Chemists, Strength of Trade’, the association’s history spans from its inception in 1996 to its current milestone in 2026. Affiliated with the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD), the RDCA has evolved into a formidable pillar of the national pharma trade movement, ensuring that the interests of regional stakeholders are aligned with broader industry goals.

Reflecting on the association's humble beginnings, founder president Sandeep Nangia told Pharmabiz that the RDCA originated from informal Sunday morning breakfast meetings in a local garden. This grassroots vision was driven by a core group of district leaders, including Nangia himself, alongside Dinesh Madan, Rajiv Bhatia, Kamal Mehrotra, Virender Jain, Pankaj Gogia, and Vinay Goel. Their primary objective was to bridge the gap between industry trade and regulators, fostering an environment of mutual trust while ensuring sustainable margins and regulatory compliance for the fraternity.

Over the past three decades, the RDCA has successfully unified a massive network within the New Delhi boundaries, currently representing 2,000 wholesalers and 18,000 retailers. In a discussion with Pharmabiz, Nangia said that before the alliance's formation in 1996, there was no such unified state-level organisation in Delhi to address the specific grievances and professional needs of pharmaceutical traders. Under Nangia’s continuous leadership for thirty years, the association has transitioned from a localized group into a sophisticated professional body that anchors the capital's medicine supply chain.

The association’s impact was most visible during the Covid-19 pandemic, where members played a critical role in maintaining an uninterrupted supply of essential medicines. By coordinating closely with both the union government and the Delhi state government, the trade body ensured that the healthcare needs of the public were met during a period of unprecedented global crisis. This proactive engagement demonstrated the alliance's capacity to act as a vital link between the pharmaceutical industry and the general public during times of national emergency.

Beyond crisis management, the RDCA has been a vocal advocate for ethical trade and patient safety. Nangia told Pharmabiz that a significant portion of its advocacy has been directed against the proliferation of unregulated online medicine platforms. By highlighting the risks associated with illegal digital sales, the association has championed the importance of licensed retail pharmacies. It remains committed to protecting fair-trade practices while ensuring that the distribution of medicines remains responsible and under the supervision of qualified professionals.

Technological advancement has remained a key focus, with the RDCA promoting digitisation within the pharma distribution network. Through a regular series of seminars, awareness workshops, and industry education programs, the alliance has empowered its members to navigate changing drug regulations and complex compliance requirements. This focus on professional excellence has ensured that Delhi’s pharmaceutical traders remain competitive and aligned with evolving global industry standards.

As the RDCA enters its fourth decade, the leadership remains focused on strengthening the pharmaceutical supply chain and empowering its members with renewed energy. The 30th-anniversary milestone is viewed not just as a celebration of past achievements, but as a commitment to future growth and stability. By fostering continued cooperation between manufacturers, distributors, and retailers, the RDCA aims to further refine the healthcare ecosystem and remain a steadfast guardian of the pharmaceutical trade in the national capital.
