Compact, non-invasive therapeutic technologies enable people to manage pain more effectively: Experts

India’s musculoskeletal experts see major change in pain management where compact, non-invasive therapeutic technologies are enabling people to manage pain more effectively within their daily lives.

Surya Prakash, founder & chief technology officer, Curapod said that in pain management, this evolution is particularly significant. Traditional approaches often rely heavily on medication or episodic physiotherapy, which may offer short-term relief but limited long-term improvement. Advanced health solutions are addressing this gap by focusing on continuous care, functional recovery, and patient engagement.

According to global health data, musculoskeletal conditions affect more than 1.71 billion people worldwide and are the leading cause of long-term disability. As healthcare systems look for scalable and sustainable alternatives, technology-enabled care is gaining momentum.

One of the defining advantages of modern pain management solutions is its ability to integrate therapy seamlessly into daily schedules. Compact, non-invasive devices now allow targeted therapy to be delivered at home or work, reducing dependence on frequent clinic visits and enabling greater consistency, he noted.

Light-based therapies are increasingly being explored. Medical-grade photobiomodulation technology uses targeted red and near-infrared light to stimulate cellular processes associated with tissue repair and inflammation management. When delivered through portable devices, this form of therapy can be applied directly to affected muscle groups, making it easier for individuals to incorporate therapeutic sessions into their regular routines, said Prakash.

Such solutions are particularly effective for individuals managing chronic back pain, joint discomfort, or recovery after physical strain. By enabling regular therapy without repeated clinic visits, they help maintain consistency, which is critical for improvement. This approach also reduces the physical and logistical barriers associated with long-term treatment, he noted.

Pain is highly individual, influenced by lifestyle, activity levels, and underlying conditions. Advanced health platforms recognise this variability by offering personalised care pathways. Using user inputs and real-time data, these systems adjust therapy intensity, duration, and frequency to suit individual needs.

The shift toward data-guided, long-term support is also reflected in growing market adoption. The global wearable pain management device segment crossed US$ 1.5 billion in market value in 2024, highlighting the growing acceptance of continuous, non-invasive monitoring tools. For customers, this means reassurance that their condition is being tracked. For clinicians, it provides clearer insights without relying solely on episodic consultations, he said.

There is remote monitoring with advanced pain management solutions. In fact, remote monitoring has been shown to reduce hospital visits and improve early intervention. In broader chronic care settings, digital monitoring programmes have demonstrated reductions in emergency admissions and improved functional outcomes. Applied to pain management, these insights help clinicians fine-tune therapy plans and address issues before they escalate, he said.

As chronic pain and lifestyle-related conditions continue to rise, sustainable care models are becoming essential. Advanced health solutions combine accessibility, personalisation, and technology to support long-term management rather than short-term relief, Prakash said.
