Pravriddhi, the pan-India product accelerator led by Foundation for Science Innovation and Development (FSID) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, has launched India’s first Oil-Free Water-Injected Screw Compressor (HYDRINO), developed and manufactured by Kirloskar Pneumatic Company Limited (KPCL). The technology for the pharma industry application has been developed indigenously by KPCL with grant support from the Ministry of Heavy Industries and technical mentorship under the Pravriddhi programme.

Neeraj Asati, GM & head – hydrogen business & technology, KPCL, said, “The commercial launch of the Oil-Free Water-Injected Screw Compressor marks a significant milestone for KPCL and for indigenous industrial manufacturing in India. The technical mentorship and structured support under the Pravriddhi programme helped us accelerate development and validate the technology to global standards, enabling us to bring this advanced product to market.”

Designed to meet ISO 8573 Class 0 oil-free air standards, HYDRINO by Kirloskar delivers contaminant-free compressed air for quality-critical industries such as pharmaceuticals, food and beverage processing, and electronics manufacturing. By eliminating oil from the compression chamber and bearing system, and using water for cooling, sealing, and lubrication, the compressor delivers high reliability and energy-efficient performance suited for continuous oil-free operation in a compact and low-noise design. The launch underscores India’s growing capability to develop advanced industrial technologies domestically, reducing dependence on imported solutions and strengthening national manufacturing self-reliance.

Pravriddhi is a pan-India product accelerator programme launched by FSID at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. The initiative supports indigenous product development across manufacturing sectors, strengthens industry-academia collaboration, and aligns with the Government of India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision to position India as a global manufacturing powerhouse.
