The Kangeyam Taluk Chemists and Druggists Association, a key affiliate of the Erode District Association in Tamil Nadu, convened its Annual General Body Meeting on January 27, 2026, to address pressing regulatory and policy challenges.

Amidst a shifting national landscape, the meeting prioritized discussions on aligning local trade with the latest amendments to the New Drugs and Clinical Trials Rules and the recently unveiled Tamil Nadu Life Sciences Promotion Policy. Leaders emphasized the need for members to adopt digital compliance systems and navigate the rationalization of supply chains to maintain competitive edge in a globalized market.

According to the association leaders, the event, held in Kangeyam, drew an impressive 84percent turnout, with 105 of the 125 registered members in attendance. This high level of engagement was bolstered by the presence of a notable delegation of industry veterans, including chief guest Shalimar Purushothaman, chairman and executive trustee for the Erode District Association. The leadership presence served as a bridge between grassroots retail operations and the broader strategic goals of the All India Organization of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD).

A significant portion of the session was dedicated to the professional empowerment of the taluk’s diverse membership base. Highlighting the progressive nature of the local trade, organizers noted that 35 percent of the association is composed of women entrepreneurs, many of whom played active roles in the day's policy deliberations. This inclusivity was hailed by guest of honour, Kalliannan, former Joint Director of Drugs Control, as a vital asset for the region’s pharmaceutical retail growth.

Financial discipline and ethical trade practices remained at the heart of the agenda. Veteran leaders, including past TNCDA state president Sethu Balasubramaniam and high-level committee chairman M Gurumurthy, provided keynote addresses on maintaining sustainable business models. They urged members to uphold the highest standards of transparency, especially as new GST and ITC frameworks are refined to reduce working-capital lock-ups for local businesses.

Beyond administrative updates, the meeting functioned as a technical seminar, offering members widespread knowledge on emerging industry trends. Experts from the executive committees of Erode district and the state association, such as  Lakshmanan and  Asokan, led sessions on navigating the impact of international trade deals. These discussions were aimed at helping local chemists prepare for a market increasingly influenced by global supply chain shifts and indigenous manufacturing incentives.

Sources from the association informed Pharmabiz that the gathering concluded with a renewed sense of unity and a clear roadmap for the coming year. By integrating the wisdom of seasoned state leadership with the energetic participation of its members, the Kangeyam Taluk Chemists and Druggists Association reinforced its position as a benchmark for regional professional bodies. The meeting closed with a call to action for all members to continue their role as essential pillars of the healthcare delivery system in Tamil Nadu.
