Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has launched MedSum, an artificial intelligence-powered clinical assistant that automatically converts doctor–patient conversations into structured medical records, prescriptions and multilingual patient summaries. Developed by the School of Artificial Intelligence at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in collaboration with Amrita Hospitals and Amrita Technologies, MedSum aims to reduce documentation burden on doctors while improving patient understanding of medical advice. The platform listens to consultations in real time and generates hospital-ready clinical notes. It also provides simplified voice-based summaries in multiple Indian languages, enabling patients to access their health information in their preferred language. “Documentation consumes a significant part of a doctor’s day and often impacts the quality of patient interaction. MedSum helps us focus more on clinical care while ensuring accurate records,” said Dr. Sachin Gupta, Dermatologist, Amrita Hospital, Faridabad. Prof Kamal Bijlani, Dean, School of Artificial Intelligence, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, said the solution was built specifically for Indian healthcare needs. “MedSum runs on BharatGen, India’s own large language model, and has been validated in real clinical settings. Our focus has been to deliver reliable documentation and accessible patient communication at scale.” MedSum is currently deployed across departments including gynaecology, oncology, neurosurgery and paediatric neurology at Amrita Hospitals, and is accessible through a doctor dashboard, patient application and administrative console. The platform was recently showcased at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 during the public launch of BharatGen. It runs on the Param-17B BharatGen model and is among the first clinical AI tools powered entirely by India’s sovereign AI infrastructure.
