The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana successfully intercepted a major shipment of illegal sildenafil tablets from Uttar Pradesh during a targeted raid on Friday, March 13.

Acting on credible information, officials from the Rangareddy zone inspected a logistics depot belonging to Delhivery Limited located in Hayathnagar Mandal. The operation resulted in the seizure of a massive stock of medicine valued at approximately Rs. 2.7 lakhs.

The seized consignment consisted of 7,300 tablets of sildenafil 100 mg, a medication primarily used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. These tablets were branded under the name ‘Dr Josh’ (Batch No. AGT305126) and claimed to be manufactured by Alventa Pharma Limited in Solan in Himachal Pradesh. Investigations revealed that the stock had been illegally shipped from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, without any accompanying invoices or valid documentation.

Authorities identified the individual behind the illegal shipment as Puvvada Lakshmana, who is described by the DCA as a habitual spurious drug offender. Lakshmana already has several pending cases related to spurious drugs within the state of Telangana. This latest seizure highlights the ongoing efforts of the administration to track and apprehend repeat offenders who bypass legal pharmaceutical supply chains.

The raid was carried out by drug inspectors L Raju of Hayathnagar and J Nagaraju of Saroornagar. The entire operation was conducted under the direct supervision of G. Prasad, the Assistant Director of the Rangareddy zone. Following the seizure, DCA officers collected samples of the tablets for official analysis to further verify their composition and quality.

The DCA has warned that the illegal sourcing, stocking, and sale of drugs are serious offenses under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Violators can face significant legal consequences, including imprisonment for up to five years. The administration emphasized that further investigation is underway and action will be taken against all individuals involved in this illegal network as per the law.

In a statement issued by director general of the DCA, Shahnawaz Qasim, the public was encouraged to assist in curbing such illegal activities. People can report suspected manufacturing or illegal sale of medicines, including narcotics and psychotropic substances, to the DCA office in Hyderabad via toll-free number at 1800-599-6969. The line is operational from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on all working days to ensure.
