 Biocon Group chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has been honoured with the Honorary Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Sciences (UK) in recognition of her contributions to the advancement of healthcare, biomedical sciences and global access to affordable medicines.
An Honorary Fellowship is one of the Academy’s highest distinctions awarded to distinguished individuals who have made outstanding contributions to advancing medical science and improving healthcare outcomes globally. The recognition spotlights Kiran’s pioneering role in establishing India’s biotech sector and building a globally respected biopharmaceutical enterprise, and her unwavering commitment to drive major advances in affordable biologics for cancer, diabetes and autoimmune diseases by leveraging science, in order to address unmet medical needs.
According to Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, “I am honoured to be elected an Honorary Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, which I greatly admire for its leadership in scientific excellence, policy influence and global collaboration. I have long believed in the power of translational science to deliver affordable, equitable healthcare. Along with Kiran, the Academy has elected 3 esteemed dignitaries in their 2026 Honorary Fellowship List are Dr John Climax, a biotechnology leader and Professor Tan Chorh Chuan, Permanent Secretary, National Research and Development in the Prime Minister’s Office, Singapore for their contributions across clinical research, health system leadership and biotechnology, shaping advances that have improved lives around the world.
The elected dignitaries will join an esteemed cohort of over 50 Honorary Fellows. Their expertise and insights will strengthen the Academy’s efforts to advance research, enhance health outcomes, and reinforce the UK’s position as a leader in global science.
